Organised Local Events

EESTech Challenge Local Round Hackathon: AI Marathon ‘n BOnding Time

Our AI applications hackathon attracted around 80 ETH students hacking away at their respective AI applications. The best team went onward to the free-of-cost final round in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Congratulations!

EESTech Challenge is an international hackathon consisting of local rounds in many European cities and one final round for the title of the EESTech Challenge champion.

LC Zurich aims to organise the hackathon again.

Students Mastering Audio Skills Happily – Quadruple Event in Zurich

This year’s workshop was very similar to last year’s as it demonstrated the various steps of electronic hardware development through an audio project example in collaboration with Bastli. The workshop began with a short theory session on audio amplification and PCB design, followed by the practical applications of circuit simulation, component selection, and PCB layout. Participants designed a PCB, assembled it using soldering irons, and tested it using oscilloscopes.

On the cultural side, our participants got to experience Zurich’s Sechseläuten. On the traditional international night, participants shared food and drinks from their home countries. We got to try sweets, snacks and drinks from Turkey, Serbia, Greece, Poland, Switzerland and many other countries. Of course, also a hearty Fondue wasn’t missed. On Thursday night, our signature tram party took place, carrying us through Zurich.

Additionally, this event wasn’t just a workshop, but a quadruple of events: Our audio hardware workshop, but at the same time also our Live Regional Meeting for EESTEC region 3 (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Netherlands) took place, where we discussed the possibility for future collaborations. On the weekend, the complementary IMW wasn’t to be missed. In parallel, on Friday, our EESTech Challenge Local Round AI hackathon took place. Pulling all of this off was marvellous.

Events Across Europe

A spotlight. Find all events we have been to on eestec.ethz.ch/blog.

Spring Congress – General Assembly & Exchange in Ljubljana, Slovenia

The Spring Congress, the five-day international general assembly of EESTEC, took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. In parallel, an exchange week happened. LC Zurich had 6 members present all week and 16 at the subsequent International Motivational Weekend, including some newbies.

Most of the days were reserved for general meetings. The new board was elected, the strategic plan for the future was discussed, and some changes to the statutes were voted on. A highlight: Our two-year LC Zurich Chairperson was elected to the International Board as Treasurer, congratulations!

At the International Fair, all international EESTEC teams and projects introduced themselves and tried to find new members. It was followed by working sessions for all representatives aimed at further developing EESTEC.

On the fun side, there was some opportunity to mingle with other participants and LC Ljubljana people every evening. This ranged from casual nights over big parties to the International Night. There, every local committee sets up a table with food and drinks from their country, giving everyone the chance to try whatever culinary delights the different regions of Europe have to offer. LC Zurich went all out and offered raclette, fondue, different cheeses, salami, chocolate and of course our speciality, Ricola Vodka.

LC Zurich Goes International

LC Zurich is playing its role on the international stage!

Our former Chairperson Michael was voted Treasurer of the international umbrella organization for the mandate 2024/25. He will continue LC Zurich’s presence on the international level after Philipp’s mandate as international Team leader ends.

Additionally, this Spring, we organised the Live Regional Meeting to foster collaboration with nearby branches. The planning for the joint event Bestes Deutsches und Schweizerisches Motivations-Wochenende the 2nd Edition happening this Autumn started there.

Do you also want to travel and organise, make new friends, tell about your friends in Portugal, stories from Serbia and organisational feats in Zurich? Find the next member meeting on eestec.ethz.ch/calendar, or ask someone in our bright red T-shirts.

Our member meetings take place every second week on Thursday evening, parallel to the larger events. There we share: How can I join? When is the next event in which city? How do I register? What can I organise? Always followed by cosy after meetings with stories from far away events and beer pong.
