Ljubljana. Sunday morning. 11 am. Espresso Martini. The start to a week that I will never forget.
One by one, participants were arriving. To start the workshop, we got to know each other, played some games, drank some beers.
On Monday morning, we locked in. Starting with teambuilding, where we learned NASA has no idea what they are doing (seriously, who wouldn’t bring dehydrated milk on a 200 mile trip on the moon?). After a short break (El Tony auf die 1), we started with the academic program. We got our hands on the Nordic Boards and started exploring. In the evening, we dressed up like Slovenes and realized that they are pretty much the Swiss of the Balkan: they love to hike!
With the first signs of sleep deprivation, we showed up to the academic session on Tuesday, some of us just physically though. At least we then were ready for bathing in fountains, searching public trashcans for 61 bottlecaps and much more during the city rally. As night fell, our hopes of getting a singer were shattered at the karaoke party….
On Wednesday, we powered through another intense academic day with Red Pitaya, and got to see even more of the beautiful city with our trip to the castle! But let’s be honest, we were all just waiting for the absolute highlight of the week: International night. People from 17 different branches brought dishes and drinks from their countries. While the “Circle of Death” was going on, some war crimes were committed (my lawyer told me to not elaborate further).
Party till 5am, but at least we can sleep in one more hour until 8am. The result was inevitable. Combined with the last few nights, the classroom on Thursday morning was more like a graveyard. Siestas anywhere and anytime. At least we got to relax at the pool party in the evening!
And already, it was Friday morning! Time to pack up your stuff and go to University for one last time! Although the week was not over for all of us – there was an IMW in the mountains, which I am too lazy to write a review about but it was fantastic! – we felt like we could sleep for 72 hours straight.
It was an absolute blast, 10/10 experience, would absolutely do it again. Thanks to all the organizers and helper from LC Ljubljana who made this event possible, and I hope to see every one of you soon somewhere around Europe!
